Your 2/9/10 Treacher update

Right after I posted that yesterday, a couple of nice medical students came in and changed the dressing on my leg. I finally got to see the aftermath, and at this point I think I’m too freaked out to really be upset by it. The knee is pretty swollen and the incision down my left leg is huge. I can’t even think about what they were peeling away and what they were doing underneath. But they seem to have done a good job, because I’m healing faster than they expected.

Then I went down to ultrasound to get checked for more blood clots. After they found the post-surgery pulmonary embolism, they wanted to make sure there weren’t any more clots floating around inside me. And they wanted to rule out the possibility that this was a preexisting thing, rather than the direct result of getting my tibia destroyed by a State Dept. SUV and having surgery to fix it. The very nice ultrasound person, Maria, didn’t find any clots. The good news is that I think I like the soothing feel of ultrasound gel. The bad news is that none of this should be happening in the first place.

Just as an aside to DC residents: You’ve seen the street sign that says something about how in DC, the law says pedestrians have the right of way, haven’t you? It’s not like a traffic sign, with block letters and bright colors. It’s very muted and has a fancy font and all that. It might even have trees on it? I know I’ve seen it here and there. If you see one of those, could you take a picture and send it to jim at dailycaller dot com? The closer to 22nd and M it is, the better.

A quick clarification for Eric Boehlert and anybody else who’s confused: I did not claim Secret Service hit me. I said I was told Secret Service hit me by people who would know. Namely, the paramedics who took me from 22nd and M to Georgetown University Hospital. They said they didn’t know if I realized it, but I’d been hit by CIA or Secret Service. Probably the latter. So I passed along what I was told, and said I wanted answers if it was true. It turns out the paramedics were off by a few federal agencies, but they were in the right ballpark. And the Daily Caller made the clarification the minute there was news. Apparently I shouldn’t have said anything about this, in order not to offend Mr. Boehlert’s sensibilities. But I haven’t been paid a visit by Secret Service, which I choose to interpret as a sign of no hard feelings on their part. Maybe not everybody demands perfect knowledge of every atom in the universe from the guy who just got hit by a car. Everything I’ve said about this has been in good faith, and I resent any implication otherwise.

I now have crutches, a walker, and a wheelchair. It’s good to have options. I’m awesome with the walker, pretty good with the crutches, and I haven’t tried the wheelchair yet. I’ll probably need that to get around outside, especially in all this snow.

Have you seen the website for the U.S. Department of State? It’s lovely.

Send out your good vibes to my friend Traci Skene, who fell on the ice and hurt her elbow. She and her husband Brian are good people.

They’re probably letting me out of the hospital today, if I can get out of here before DC’s daily blizzard. And then I can look forward to months of physical therapy and blood tests, a huge hospital bill, and a jaywalking citation. And the guy who drove the State Dept. SUV that hit me is… ???

(Thanks to the mighty Mark Hemingway for the photo. Also in the room were Michael Moynihan and his lovely wife Joanna, Peter Burns, Jack Simms, and Mary Katharine Ham. It’s good to have such friends.)

P.S. It’s just a hat. It’s just a piece of home. I don’t even follow sports. I couldn’t even stay awake for the Super Bowl, which is the only football game I watch all year. And it’s better than the rat’s nest that was underneath after almost a week of not being able to wash it properly. I didn’t want to talk to MKH like that!

It would have been awesome if I could have been your ultrasound tech, because it would mean that I had a job…*sigh*

Treacher says “I did not claim Secret Service hit me.”

Yes you did. Multiple times. The first things you said about the incident, in your tweets, said that the Secret Service hit you. The first thing that Tucker Carlson SAID was that you were hit by the Secret Service. Neither of you qualified your statements in ANY way.

Later on, sure, you qualified them, but not at first, you sure didn’t.

And no one demands that you never make a mistake. But before someone REPEATS your accusation, they should check it out. And they didn’t. And that’s what happened here that Eric originally pointed out. AFTER your side started lying about what happened, and started distorting what Eric had said, THEN it became about YOU lying. But at first, it was only about how someone in the media hadn’t done their job well.

    • Jim Treacher

I await a visit from Secret Service. In the meantime, it’s wonderful that you’re standing up for them.

Boehlert claims I went on the Daily Caller and accused the Secret Service of hitting me. I did not. I await his correction. [queue laughtrack]

Here’s a head-scratcher for you, Dolly: If it wasn’t a hit-and-run, why was there ever any question who hit me?

      • dollymadison

Because you were misinformed by people who didn’t KNOW. That doesn’t mean that there weren’t people who DID know the correct information. Just because SOME people didn’t know some factual information, that does NOT mean that NO ONE was told who he was, does it? Of course it doesn’t. You should have thought that argument through a little more.

        • Jim Treacher

And they didn’t KNOW because this guy broke the LAW. But please keep entertaining us with this Dolly-logic.

          • dollymadison

There’s not one bit of information that indicates that the driver violated ANY law in not giving YOU his contact info directly. He doesn’t HAVE to tell YOU his personal information. He can tell a cop, OR a bystander.

Based upon your telling of your injuries and circumstances, it sounds like it would have been wholly inappropriate for him to have burdened YOU with his contact info while you were suffering, lying in the road and later being attended to by paramedics from the nearby firehouse.

Just because some people didn’t know who the driver worked for doesn’t mean that the people who HAD TO KNOW, the cops, didn’t know. And we KNOW that the COPS know who this guy is. So he did NOT break the law. You’re trying to say that be broke the law because you WRONGLY believed that he had to give YOU that info. You WRONGLY believed that because he didn’t give YOU that info, it was a hit-and-run. It wasn’t that either. And now, even WITH that evidence, you’re STILL refusing to acknowledge these facts. Why?

      • dollymadison

And you DID go on the Daily Caller and accuse the Secret Service of hitting you. Saying that you’ve been told that you were hit by the Secret Service in that first post on the Daily Caller doesn’t STOP IT FROM BEING AN ACCUSATION. You seem to be under the mistaken impression that it does somehow mean it’s not an accusation. It still is. It’s crazy talk to suggest that it somehow negates what you said. ANYONE making ANY accusation learns the info they need to make that accusation somehow – either they have personal info or they learn it from another person, or some combo of the two. A D.A. makes an accusation against an alleged criminal based upon the info he receives from others. That doesn’t stop his filing of charges from being his responsibility, does it? Of course not.

        • Jim Treacher

Your completely ridiculous opinion has been noted.

If it wasn’t a hit and run, why didn’t I call out the State Dept. to begin with?

          • dollymadison

It wasn’t a hit and run because it wasn’t. The fact that the driver didn’t give YOU his info doesn’t make it a hit and run. He gave his info to other people, and YOU’LL have access to it once you get the police report since you didn’t get it right away directly from him.

Think about this. Let’s say you were more seriously injured in this accident – knocked unconscious. What would a driver’s responsibility be there? Is he obligated to pin his contact info to your shirt, and hope it doesn’t get lost in the emergency room? Of course not.

The fact that you didn’t know immediately who employed the person who hit you doesn’t make it a hit-and-run. A person knocked unconscious wouldn’t know that either, even if the driver stopped! I am baffled as to why you think the fact that you didn’t know this info makes it a hit-and-run. Your lack of knowledge doesn’t equal it being a hit-and-run.

Can someone please tell me who this insufferable twit “dollymadison” is and why she’s clogging up the comments section with demonstrable lies and utter nonsense?

For Christ’s sake, there’s like 20 inches of snow on the ground here. I don’t need to shovel b.s. at the same time.

Peddle your lies elsewhere DM. I hear they’re looking for DU correspondents.

Can someone please tell me who this insufferable twit “thatsright” is and why he/she’s clogging up the comments section with demonstrable lies and utter nonsense?

For Christ’s sake, there’s tons of evidence that I’ve presented that documents everything I’ve said and refutes everything that Treacher has been repeating. The site doesn’t need another fool to miss all those signs and act stupid like “thatsright” is doing here. There are plenty of other fools who have already been doing that.

Peddle your lies elsewhere TR. I hear they’re looking for more ignorant posters on Beck’s and Rush’s website.

    • killtruck

I think you’re lying about being on a first name basis with Eric Boehlert.

Unless you look like the love child of James O’Keefe and Andrew Breitbart, he probably doesn’t think of you at all. Stop crying, you’re still young. Psych! You peaked in kindergarten.

Do you still live in the Playboy mansion? Is the reason Hef couldn’t get you pregnant that he’s actually a robot from the future?

    • rbiii

What’s the smell? OH yeah, it’s an @MMFA troll!

      • dollymadison

Yeah, that’s why you were able to easily refute everything I said, right? Hey, wait a minute, all you did was make a baseless personal attack, and failed to even TRY to debunk a single thing I said. Amazing how that happened.

        • killtruck

I think it’s really interesting how you spent your whole day on this.

          • Jim Treacher

            Hey, it’s early!

          • dollymadison

If you think that THIS nonsense took my whole day, then you must be REALLY non-productive at what YOU do.

        • Jim Treacher

          Please, keep going.

          • dollymadison

Yeah, I noticed that I was getting to you so much that you had to take a couple of days off. Getting to you so much, with my expose of the misstatements and untruths you were spouting, that you had to resort to personal attacks.

You can pretend that my refutations didn’t bother you at all. Anyone with half a brain knows that’s not true – that it bothered you a lot to not be speaking into an echo chamber where everything you said was accepted as gospel and no questions were asked when what you said didn’t comport with common sense. Too bad, so sad.

I’m really sorry you got hurt. I hope you recover quickly. But denying what you explicitly said was wrong. Sure, you were misinformed by others, but that only makes DENYING what you undeniably said even MORE egregious. Why not immediately own up to the fact that others misinformed you? Why not immediately admit that your misidentification of the guilty federal gov’t dept that owned the car that hit you did NOT indicate that it was a hit-and-run? I suspect it was because it was embarrassing that you made such a big deal out of it when it wasn’t a big deal at all – admitting that would have hurt your credibility. But that’s too bad – mature people LEARN from their mistakes after they admit them. Carping about the fact that you don’t have the contact info of the guy whose car hit you is ridiculous too, and I’ve explained why. And then complaining about a jaywalking ticket? C’mon – if you read the jaywalking statutes, you were likely guilty of jaywalking – if not, provide evidence and get off. Your need to turn this into a conspiracy, as though the Secret Service were purposely out to hit you, or that they have bought off the D.C. police and caused them to give you a small dollar jaywalking ticket? Another sign of immaturity. While you’re getting better, work on growing up too.

        • johanna

I think someone OTHER THAN JT needs to be taking their meds.

          • thatsright

I think DM needs to be taking JT’s meds.

Come to think of it…Treach…got a couple extra? Buddy?

          • dollymadison

Again with the immature personal attacks when someone can’t refute the facts? What is it with you folks? Are you all teenagers here?

  3. katnandu

David Brooks actually says in an article that Biden has done a good job managing the stimulus package….can you imgine?….LOL…LOL

    • banjo

David Brooks admired the sharp crease in the trousers encasing Obama’s evidently attractive leg. Anything he says about Joe Biden and the stimulus package is gravy for the White House.

      • katnandu

I don’t know about that…I think people are laughing so hard they are peeing just a little bit!

  4. windrdr

When/if Hillary! shows up, be sure to ask if you can check out her tattoo. Might get you running down the hall faster than PT.

Anyhoo, takin a dive in front of an SUV just to get MKH to hang out with ya while you’re in a hospital gown? Gutsiest move I’ve ever seen. . .

  5. katnandu

Has anyone seen Al Gore?…………I’m really starting to worry that he is trapped somewhere beneath the snow in D.C. Is anyone looking for him?

    • Jim Treacher

You might want to think about getting a new… a new… yeah.

You wear whatever hat your heart desires! But I could send you a nice TN Titan’s one if you like. They have nice colors.
